Single-stream takes guesswork out of recycling on Easy Street
I'm on Easy Street. And everyone else should be, too. Here's why: Every night, usually after dinner, I walk into my garage and toss my trash into one 96-gallon wheeled bin. My recyclables? I toss them into a separate 64-gallon wheeled container sitting right next to my trash can. Let's forget for a second that my definition of Easy Street is kind of lame. From growing significantly despite a down economy to planning for the inevitable future changes in the waste industry, Royal Disposal has firmly placed itself at the forefront of its market.
From the time that Royal Disposal and Recycle (Houston, TX) opened its doors in April 2001 to currently operating at full capacity, the company has done things its own way. Eleven years ago, Charles Gregory, Vice President, COO and General Council of Royal Disposal was working as a corporate and commerical litigator when he was approached by his friend and partner, David Hanna, President and CEO, who brought to Gregory's attention a company called Royal Maintenance, which was primarily a recycler. "The company would service business, gated communities, townhouses, condominium associations by picking up the trash with pickups and trailers, take it back to their home base and sort the aluminum cans, paper and plastics in order to take them to the recycling facility," says Gregory.
